To the Editor,

I just want to send a note of encouragement to everyone in Robeson County and to let you know that the whole country sees what you are going through and is willing to help anyway they can. I pray that this disaster can find a way to bring some good for the future to balance out all the shock and dislocation and suffering and loss.

Though I live in Oregon now, I grew up visiting my grandparents in Lumberton for holidays and summer vacation. In the late 1990s, I had the opportunity to serve the community for five years as coordinator of the Lumberton Family Resource Center, and for a bit at the Robeson County Church and Community Center. My heart breaks when I see all that water flooding in … and memories flood in with it.

We will be doing what we can from way out here, but always, always praying for everyone living through this. May you feel supported, uplifted, cared for, strengthened and loved.

My deepest sympathies for all of your loss, and my daily prayers for your resilience and recovery.
