LUMBERTON — Computer classes will be offered for small and limited-resource farmers at Robeson Community College starting on Jan. 18.

The sessions, which last five weeks, will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 18 people. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The classes start with the basics of operating a computer and progress to providing fundamental instruction on using a computer to improve farm management record keeping.

LUMBERTON — The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will host a free price-risk management workshop on Jan. 18 at the O.P. Owens Building in Lumberton.

The workshop, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is called Managing Price Volatility by Using Futures and Options. Lunch is on your own. Topics covered will include grain hedging, basis trading, cost of carry, cotton futures, energy derivatives, and options trading on futures, equities and indices.
