Southeastern’s Hospice’s 27th Festival of Trees event, with its “A Holiday to Remember” theme, opens today in the Osterneck Auditorium at 102 N. Chestnut St., across from the Robeson County Public Library. The festival runs today from 1 until 5 p.m. and will continue Monday and Tuesday, open each day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In addition to exquisitely-decorated theme trees, the event includes the Unique Boutique gift shop, offering fresh-baked goodies, specialty foods, crafts and gift items, such as ornaments, wreaths and centerpieces, for purchase.
Money raised by the event will benefit Southeastern Hospice, established in 1985 as the only non-profit hospice in the county, as well as Camp Care, an annual weekend camp for children 8 to 16 years old who have experienced the death of a loved one.
“Southeastern Hospice has meant so much to many of the folks that will attend the Festival of Trees,” said SRMC Marketing Coordinator Ann McLean, the event’s organizer. “Speaking from experience, when you are facing a situation with a terminally ill family member, hospice staff give you the comfort of knowing that your loved one isn’t just waiting to die. They control symptoms and continue to make them as comfortable as possible while providing the rest of the family with a shoulder to lean on. I am very grateful that we have so many sponsors and decorators continuing year after year to support this worthwhile cause.”
Tickets for the Festival can be purchased at the door. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and children over the age of 12. Children under 12 and members of Southeastern’s PrivilegesPlus program, who present a membership card at the door, will be admitted at no charge.
