To the Editor,
It is a great opportunity to be able to cast a vote for someone when you really know who they are and what they stand for. As the wife of Robert Chavis 40 years, I know the candidate I am voting for. He is a person who gives 100 percent to whatever he is involved in.
Anyone who knows him can attest to the fact that he is a hard worker. He takes that same work ethic and applies it to his Tribal Council position. He has supported our elders and youth who are our most valuable resources. As a father of a soldier, he is an advocate for our veterans who are the backbone of our country. He has a long history of volunteerism within the tribal area in civic duties, school, rescue work, church and foreign missions.
I have witnessed the appreciation of another thanking him for helping her secure a warm place for she and her children to stay in or helping an elder reconnect their electricity. I also witnessed his reaction to their gratitude. He was thankful to be in a position to help them and others.
He has represented the Lumbee Tribe and District 7 well. Thank you to the citizens of Rowland and Pembroke for your support. District 7 has some of the greatest members of the Lumbee Tribe. That is a recognition that can’t be denied.
Jane O. Chavis
