Mr. Hervie and Dr. Josephine Locklear announce the engagement of their daughter, Ms. Melanie Nicole Hunt and retired Sgt. First Class Dwayne Hunt of Pembroke, the son of the late Mr. William Datris Hunt of Lumberton and Mrs. Mary E. Oxendine of Pembroke. Melanie is also the daughter of the late Mr. Earl Cranston Strickland of Fairmont.

Melanie is the granddaughter of the late Joseph and Betty Ruth Locklear of Fairmont and the late Earl and Velma Strickland of Fairmont, and Jessie and Mary Lee Locklear of Pembroke. She attended Orrum High School and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, earning a bachelor’s degree of Arts and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She works for Richmond Community College in the Workforce Economic Development Department.

Dwayne is the grandson of the late Mary Jacobs Hunt of Fairmont and Cornelius Ball and Pearlie Hunt of Raynham. He attended West Robeson High School and Robeson Community College. He retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service and civil service at Fort Bragg. He is self-employed.

The wedding will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Kingston Plantation at the Hilton in Myrtle Beach.
