RALEIGH — Two Bladen County men were arrested recently in Lumberton and charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.

One of the men, Lee Guy, worked previously as a Bladen County sheriff’s deputy and trooper with the state Highway Patrol, according to the Fayetteville Observer. Guy last worked for the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office in 2000, Capt. Rodney Hester told the paper.

According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Guy and his son Christian Guy, both of Bladenboro, were arrested at a Lumberton home after the State Bureau of Investigation and a Homeland Security set up undercover operations to buy drugs from the pair.

According to the criminal complaint, Lee Guy led a drug operation for more than a year and coordinated the transportation of more than 10,000 pounds of marijuana from Tucson, Ariz., to Bladen and Robeson counties.

The affidavit says that authorities learned of the operation on Oct. 23 when an informant told the SBI and Assistant Special Agent in Charge J.L. Crawford of Homeland Security that he had driven to Tuscon to pick up 180 pounds of marijuana and transported it back to North Carolina to give to Lee Guy.

According to the paper, authorities in Tuscon had arrested Lee Guy’s supplier and Tuscon, Ariz., and Raleigh agents decided on Nov. 1 to have a Homeland Security agent pose as a supplier named “Carlos.”

On Nov. 19, at about 6:30 a.m. authorities watched Carlos meet with Christian Guy and Lee Guy at a truck stop to purchase the marijuana, according to the paper. The paper said after Christian and Lee Guy bought the drugs, lawmen followed them to a Lumberton home on N.C. 41 and made the arrests.

Both men appeared Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Raleigh before Magistrate Judge James D. Gates for a preliminary hearing and detention hearing. The court found probable cause to order both men to remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Office.

Both men requested court-appointed public defenders. Lee Guy will be represented by Gerald Beaver of the Fayetteville law firm of Beaver, Holt, Strenlicht and Courie, P.A. There was no information on who will represent Christian Guy.

Erin Smith, a staff writer with the Bladen Journal, contributed to this report.

Wow...I am glad personal opinions are just that! Character defines who you are as a person. You have to know one's character before you can truly judge that individual. From all of the negative responses I could say you are cold heart and must not know what family means, however, I don't know you to do that. As I said before I am not sure what family means to you all who have posted, but family to me means everything. At the end of the day, right or wrong, I will stand behind my family. In times like these is when your family needs you the most, at their weakest point. I also want to clear up that neither of these guys have an appointed lawyers, they hired their own! This article has so many errors, but I guess that doesn't matter because it draws attention! People are human and make mistakes, some worse than others. Mistakes happen so you can learn from them and call them lessons learned. Shouldn't everyone be given a second chance. Oh I am sorry I forgot you don't know that Christian hasn't EVER been in trouble. If you get a DWI and it is your first offense, usually you have another chance....right? And the thought that the drunk driver could killed another individual! Christian is a child, yes he may be 18 now which is legal but in my eyes he is a child. God has mercy! We all deserve Hell but because of his amazing love, he gives us chance after chance. When we get to Heaven and we see all that God had accomplished through our trails, we'll wish we had more.

I would like to correct every single last one of y'all. The son is innocent, this article along with many others are VERY wrong. So back off. You can't believe everything you read. He is a good kid, this is a messed up situation. There are many other people in this world who walk free after they have killed and raped others. Think about that, our government isn't perfect. So unless any of you know the facts. Shut your mouths about what should happen to them.

Also for those of y'all who are saying how they should be punished and what not, obviously have not realized they are in jail for a drug that has been legalized in at least 3 states, truly if marijuana is so bad they would have never legalized it, you don't seem them trying to legalize Meth? Now do you? No! How can half of our government say it is okay for the use of marijuana, and the other say you are going to jail for the rest of your life. It's not fair. Like I said perviously there are far worse crimes being committed and those who actually deserve to be locked up for life walking free.

I am for legalization...and truth...there are 2 states that legalized for recreational use with possession of up to an ounce, not to be smoked in public and taxed properly...guys like this set back the cause...truth, they are not innocent of the current federal law according to the publicly released info..

I can't believe it - how can you sell drugs and get a free court appointed attorney? no wonder our crime rate in America is so high compared to other countries...

I'll tell you how. Because the scumbag (spit) lawyers got themselves "elected" to the NC General Assembly and then passed laws to take care of THEMSELVES at the taxpayer's expense. That's how. NEVER, and I mean NEVER, vote for a scumbag (spit) lawyer for ANYTHING.

@percykution-no they deserve a fair trial like everybody else. No matter what they may or may not have dive still treat them fair.

Assuming he's guilty...if he was doing it now who knows what he was doing when he was on the police side of the law?? Was he involved in the drug game then?!?!eas he falsifying evidence against competitors?!?!was he planting drugs in people?!?! Was he helping a drug operation on taxpayer time?!?!?! Someone needs to check the integrity if these officers. They are human just like everybody else and have temptations, greed, hatred, etc just like other people do. I believe they have too much power and are believed so highly to easily. Lets not forget that they are trained liars!! they know everything about deceptive body language and detecting deception so wouldn't they know how to be deceptive?!?!

They will just send him to "The Fed-Pen" where he will walk the yard as free as a bird and enjoy catered meals.....Send him and his son to solitary confinement for the rest of their life(Cells facing each other)....and feed them through the bars and don't let them outside to see the sun till they die!!!!

Should have just shot 'em on the spot and FORGET ABOUT IT. But that would have cost the scumbag (spit) "defense" lawyers a lot of money wouldn't it? And saved the taxpayers a lot too. Can't have that.

@PercyKution Christian was a very good friend of mine and he was never in any trouble! He was one of the most kind hearted people you will ever meet. How can you say he needs to be in solitary confinement or he should have been shot down on the spot for just doing what his daddy told him to do? Who are you to judge anybody on this earth? Do you not have skeletons in your closet? Can you say that your garments are as white as snow? No, you can not. No one is perfect and I'm not sure what your relationship is like with your parents but if my daddy asked me for help I would help him. Granted Lee should have been more of a father and not put his son in that situation Christian was only being loyal to his daddy. Now this child is going I have a huge portion of his life taken away from him that he will never get back! My heart goes out to Christian and I pray that God gives him the strength and the courage that he needs to make it through this. He has so many family members and friends that are waiting for him.
