LUMBERTON — The city’s website was taken over at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday by someone who says he is a Turkish Muslim and goes by the name SlyHacker, according to the Fayetteville Observer.
A message addressed to U.S., Israeli, French and Muslim enemies was embedded over the city’s website, Travis Branch, director of the city’s Management Information Systems Department, told the newspaper. He said he removed the message at about 1 a.m.
Branch told the Observer there was no breach of personal information and no virus appeared to be attached to the message. His department shut down the site temporarily while it investigated how it was accessed.
The message, written in a foreign language, followed with an English translation that read in part: “The shame you are doing to Muslims is never going to be forgotten.”
