SMRC to host

blood drive

LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center will host an American Red Cross blood drive in the Assembly Room at the hospital on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Anyone who would like to donate blood must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors will be entered into a drawing to win a $1,000 gift card.

Support group

set to meet

LUMBERTON — The next meeting of a Fibromyalgia Support Group sponsored by Southeastern Regional Medical Center is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Village Station Restaurant in Lumberton. Lunch will be provided.

The guest speaker is Dr. Richard Serano, a neurologist who also has fibromyalgia and successfully manages his symptoms. Registration is required by calling 910735-2830 or emailing locklc06@srmc.org.

Mammograms

offered free

LAURINBURG — Scotland Memorial Hospital is providing free mammograms to uninsured women in Robeson and Scotland counties throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Money raised by Susan G. Komen for the Cure and a hospital fundraiser, “Putting on the Ritz — A Gala of Giving,” will provide funds for the mammograms. Last year, more than 200 free mammograms were performed.

Those who are interested in having a free mammogram should contact their physician for a referral. To provide assistance to patients in need, contact Scotland Memorial Foundation at 910-291-7558.

New support

group sets date

LUMBERTON — Individuals who are blind or visually impaired and their family members are invited to a kick-off meeting for a new support group on Thursday. The meeting will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in Community Classroom I on the main campus of Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The group will meet the second Thursday of each month at this meeting time and place. For information, call Victor Alford at 910-739-2799 or Ethel Bullard at 910-738-8012.

ROWLAND — Free health screenings will be offered on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Southside Alumni Association Building at 606 Martin Luther King Drive in Rowland.

Checks for total cholesterol/HDL, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index will be offered to adults 18 years and older. These free screens are sponsored by Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s Community Health Services department. Call 910-671-5595 for information.

LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center Foundation Advocates is hosting the second annual Boots & BBQ on Oct. 19 at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Events Center located off of U.S. 74.

Live entertainment will be provided by Déjà Vu and barbeque will be served with all of the fixings. Proceeds will benefit Southeastern’s Maternal/Child Services. Tickets are available at a cost of $45 per person; sponsorships are available for $250 and $450.
