Hundreds of people gathered at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke on Wednesday to celebrate Pembroke Day. A record number of student groups, vendors and health care providers participated in the event.

Southeastern Regional Medical Center and Kerr Drug offered flu shots; free blood-sugar testing, blood pressure checks and diabetes screenings were also available.

The event featured food from local restaurants and performances by UNCP’s marching band, chorale and jazz combo; Southern Sun drum circle; Fireset, a Christian indie band from Pembroke; Victoria Huggins; Miss UNCP Jocelyn Hunt; and Miss Indian North Carolina Layla Locklear.
