Susie Locklear, 73, of 854 Bryant Circle, was called to her heavenly home on Sept. 15, 2012, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sycamore Hill Holiness Church, the Revs. Floyd Hunt and Kip Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Sycamore Hill Holiness Church.

She was born May 3, 1939, in Robeson County to the late Belton and Carrie Locklear, and went home to be with our heavenly father on Saturday, Sept. 15.

In addition to her parents, Locklear is preceded in death by a son, Danny Bryant Locklear; two brothers, Belton Locklear Jr., and Howard Locklear; two sisters, Mary Florence McLeod and Virginia Deese; and two grandsons, Joseph Locklear and Ozar Locklear.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Daniel Locklear of the home; three sons, Sterling Locklear and wife Annie Rose, Craig Locklear of Maxton and Gregg Locklear and wife Abby of Prospect Community; three daughters, Fondaire Locklear, Carrie Sue Brooks and husband Micheal, and Paula Kay Locklear and husband Ronald Brown, all of Maxton; three sisters, Martha Locklear, Mary Lee Locklear and husband Phillip, and Mary Lois Lowery and husband Marshall; 19 grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lynn Locklear

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson’s Funeral Home.

Garfield Hunt Jr., 60, U.S Army retired, of 6959 Albert St., died Sept. 15, 2012, at home.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, the Revs. Manford Locklear and Jackson Locklear officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Hunt is preceded in death by his father, Garfield Hunt Sr.; a brother, Sonny Boy Hunt; a nephew, Daniel Lee Hunt.

He is survived by his wife, Roxie Ann Hunt of the home; his mother, Sadie Mae Hunt of Lumberton; three sons, Major Christopher E. Hunt of Jacksonville, Billy Jack Hunt of Rocky Mount and Jeremey Hunt of Elizabethtown, a daughter, Misty Hunt of Elizabethtown; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Hunt of Lumberton; and three grandchildren, Tyler Hunt, Katlyn Hunt and Rhianna Burnette.

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Revels Funeral Home in Lumberton.

Laura Edens Knight, 101, of Lumberton, died Sept. 15, 2012.

The funeral will be noon Wednesday at Cape Fear Presbyterian Church, 2606 Newkirk Ave., Wilmington. Internment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall

She was born June 17, 1911, in Lumberton. She was the daughter of the late Henry Odell and Myrtle Ferguson Edens.

She is survived by her daughter, Catharin Scheck of Tucson, Ariz., and recently of Wilmington; three sons, Edward Knight of Castro Valley, Calif., Thomas Reginald Knight of Wilmington, and Odell Knight of Campagnano di Roma, Italy; seven grandchildren;, five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, Knight is survived by four sisters-in law, Tom (Peggy) Edens and Charles (Betty) Edens, both of Lumberton, Henry (June) Edens of Manteo, and Jim (Sallie) Edens of Yorktown.

Knight graduated in 1930 from Lumberton High School. Following her graduation from Badger McLeod’s Business School, Knight held several jobs before her marriage to Ed Knight of Red Springs. She was a stenographer at the Department of Social Services where Dr. Lennox Baker, chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Duke Medical Center, would let only Knight take dictation during his monthly clinic in Lumberton.

She was active in Cape Fear Presbyterian Church since moving to Wilmington in 1957 and was also active in the South Camp Gideons Auxiliary, holding offices of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer and chaplain. She enjoyed all types of crafts, including porcelain doll making and needlework. Some of her happiest moments were working in her yard and garden. She was devoted to her Lord and Saviour, her husband and children and helping people in need.

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Andrews Mortuary.

Stephen Dent

Fairmont

Stephen Dent, 59, of Fairmont, died Sept. 17, 2012, at Southeastern Hospice House.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Floyd Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are his father, E.J. Dent of Fairmont; his mother, Hazel Dent of Fairmont; a son, Stephen Dent Jr. of Fairmont; a daughter, Michalaya Dent of Fairmont; two brothers, James H. Dent Sr. and Garon Dent, both of Fairmont; and a sister, Wanda Hunt of Fairmont.

The visitation will be held immediately following the service at the graveside.
