Identity theft

event Saturday

MAXTON — Maxton police will provide informaton about identify theft during an event at Henderson Park on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

The event, being held in recognition of Crime Prevention Month, will also include information on how to keep a neighborhood safe and how to prepare for an emergency. It will feature a DJ, free food and drinks, and a basketball tournament.

Tribal chairman

debate is Nov. 2

LUMBERTON — A debate for candidates running for Lumbee tribal chairman will be held Nov. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. at the University Annex of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

The debate, sponsored by the Phi Sigma Nu Native American Fraternity, will be moderated by Jarrod Marshall Lowery.

There are three candidates for tribal chairman — incumbent Paul Brooks, former Chairman Jimmy Goins, and Lynn Jacobs, who also ran previously for the office and lost.
