Rouzer gerrymandered lines to gain an unfair advantage

To the Editor,

I am shocked that David Rouzer thinks he can be elected simply by having a new district drawn for himself.

As many of us know, the 7th congressional district was gerrymandered by our state legislators, including David Rouzer, so that it now includes Rouzer’s home county and excludes the majority of Mike McIntyre’s home Robeson County in a blatant effort to unseat the incumbent. In fact, we can thank the newly-drawn district for the outcome of the Republican primary this year. According to the state Board of Elections, had it not been for the overwhelming support from Johnston County, Rouzer would have lost the primary to Illario Pantano by over 9,000 votes.

Is that how democracy works? What does it say about a candidate when he takes advantage of an unfair playing field in order to win? Are these the types of politicians we trust representing us in Congress? I think not.

I refuse to vote for a candidate who tries to stack the deck in his favor before the race even begins. I am a registered Republican and I supported Pantano in 2010 and would likely be doing the same this year if he were on the ballot. But instead, I will be voting for McIntyre because I truly believe he is a man of integrity, not the type of politician who has to redraw district lines to be elected.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but McIntyre benefited from the gerrymandering done by the previous 150 years of Democrat rule in the state house. I really hate that Pantano didn't get the chance to square off against McIntyre again, but voting for McIntyre isn't going to help anyone.

It must be what politicians are made up of. You don't have to look any farther than your own back yard. Our County Commissioners take advantage of the citizens of Robeson County and think nothing of it!

The so called pay study must have vanished!!!! The Commissioners are still getting overpaid and their families are still getting free healthcare and the library is still asking for donations. Tom Taylor is trying to cover up his greed by saying he will make various donations from his own pocket because it is election time. HOW PATHETIC do the Commissioners think the citizens are. Roger Oxendine expanded his voting lines all the way to Pembroke to 74and 710. So, don't get discouraged stand up and be heard. Keep the public informed.
