LUMBERTON — A Red Springs woman has pleaded guilty to arson for setting two fires to the same home and fraudulently using a state-issued credit card, according to sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth.
Christina Beasley, 23, of Red Springs, agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charges of two counts of second-degree arson and larceny on Friday. She had been charged with attempted first-degree arson, second-degree arson, injury to real property, burning personal property, and larceny, according to Duckworth.
She was sentenced to one to two years in the Department of Corrections for one arson conviction and received suspended sentences of 10 to 12 months for larceny and 18 to 31 months for the second arson conviction, according to Duckworth.
She will be on probation for three years after her release, according to Duckworth.
Beasley was charged in January with second-degree arson and burning of personal property for setting fire to the 3853 Old Lowery Road home of Roy Clark, according Duckworth. Beasely, who had been living at the home, was told to leave the home after an altercation and set fire to a trash can inside the home and the yard of the home, according to the report. The fire caused about $10,000 damage to the home.
Beasley was then charged with setting fire to the home for a second time in May when she was out on bond. She was charged with first-degree arson and injury to real property.
According to the report, Beasley had been asked to leave and knocked out a window and piled stack of wood against the back of the house and set fire to it. A neighbor was able to put it out.Damage to the home was about $200.
She was charged with larceny by Red Springs police for using a credit card issued to her by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services to buy $33 in gasoline on Nov. 4 although she was no longer employed with the department.
Beasley was also ordered to pay $2,549.88 in restitution for the larceny charge and $8,300 in restitution, according to Duckworth.
Assistant District Attorney Allan Adams prosecuted the case.
