LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center changed its organizational name to Southeastern Health on Jan. 1 to help reinforce the concept that Southeastern means health.

“We take great care of people when they get sick,” said Joann Anderson, president and CEO. “But we’re also focused on promoting healthy lifestyles. The name change helps us communicate the responsibility we have to the overall health of our community.”

A focus on fitness is another way Southeastern promotes healthy living. Along with Southeastern Lifestyle Fitness Center and Spa — the organization’s main fitness outlet — Southeastern also offers a wide range of programs to patients across the service area.

What better way to promote healthy living than to support local efforts to get the community moving?

This year Southeastern Health is the title sponsor for both the Family Fun Mile and the 5K walk/run events that will be held at the Rumba on the Lumber in downtown Lumberton on March 2.

This local festival draws individuals and families from Robeson and surrounding counties and offers a little bit of fun and fitness for everyone.

To make it easier to participate in the free family fun mile, registration will be held on the day of the event from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at Candy Sue’s restaurant on Third Street in downtown Lumberton. The Family Fun Mile will begin at 10 a.m.

The first 400 kindergarten through eighth-grade participants to register will receive a free T-shirt and bib number. Those who cross the finish line will receive bottled water to quench their thirst. Mascot favorites Rocky the Bear from Southeastern Health and Kidsville’s Truman will again be making their way through the crowds, shaking hands and getting participants excited about the fun mile challenge.

The Southeastern Health 5K begins at 11 a.m. following the 10K bicycle ride at 9 a.m. and the Family Fun Mile at 10 am.
