LUMBERTON — A current candidate for the Board of Education for the Public Schools of Robeson County and a former teacher with the school system was once guilty of indecent exposure.
Robert Lee Davis, 69, who is seeking election to an at-large seat on the school board, was charged in March 1992 with indecent exposure following a complaint from a 15-year-old girl, according to an article in the March 20, 1992, edition of The Robesonian. He was working as a social studies teacher at Fairmont High School at the time.
He denies the allegations, saying he didn’t get a fair trial.
The girl told police she was in her car at about 6 p.m. outside Biggs Park Mall waiting for her family to return. According to the report, she noticed a truck rounding the building and soon realized the truck had parked behind her car.
According to the report, Davis “unzipped his pants and exposed himself.” The girl then blew the horn and Davis fled. She took down the truck’s license plate number and gave it to authorities.
According to a court document from April 1994, Davis was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and had to pay a $500 fine.
Davis told The Robesonian this morning that it was not a teenage girl who accused him but two off-duty police officers.
“I was told then by the presiding Judge Carmical, that I was charged with indecent exposure,” he said. “I didn’t have a warrant served on me. They did not identify anybody who had accused me of a crime. … No person ever even said they filed a charge against me.”
Davis said a prosecutor told him that he could not have a lawyer. He asked the court to conduct an investigation.
“These issues have never been entertained as of right now,” he said.
Davis is one of five candidates for three at-large seats on the Board of Education. The others are Jo Ann Chavis Lowery, Jerry Long and John Campbell, all of whom are incumbents, and challenger Randy Lawson.

I'd rather look at his privates in public than him rob us blind in private.
