PEMBROKE — A Pembroke man has been charged with arson after he threw a brick through the window of a house and then set it on fire, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
According to sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth, an arson investigator, Daniel Jacobs Jr., 39, of Zetto Drive, went to the Wessie Drive home of Timothy Locklear about 12:04 a.m. on Tuesday. Duckworth said Jacobs planned to slash the tires of a truck parked outside the home belonging to Locklear’s girlfriend but was unable to. He then tried to disable the truck’s ignition using a screwdriver, Duckworth said.
Jacobs threw a brick through a window in the home, waking Locklear, Duckworth said.
“It woke him up, he runs him off and gets dressed to go look for him,” Duckworth said.
While Locklear was out looking for Jacobs, Jacobs took a jug of gasoline from a nearby home and dumped it outside Locklear’s home, then threw the jug with some gasoline in it through the broken window, Duckworth said. He set the fire and left.
Jacobs was later captured and charged with second-degree arson, injury to personal property, misdemeanor larceny, breaking and entering to a motor vehicle and injury to real property. According to Duckworth, he lied to officers about his name and had a previous warrant. He was placed in the Robeson County jail under $15,000 bond.
The fire caused about $1,000 damage to the home, and about $200 damage to the truck, according to Duckworth
Duckworth said Jacobs set the fire because of an “ongoing feud.” Jacobs has a file with the N.C. Department of Correction that goes back to 1991 and includes assault with a deadly weapon and numerous breaking and entering and larceny charges.
