LUMBERTON — The Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band will kick off the Alive After 5 summer concert series in downtown Lumberton on Thursday night.
During the free event, residents will have the opportunity to dance to live music, enjoy food and socialize with friends and family from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Third and Water streets.
“One thing about Blackwater is that we always try to bring a party,” said Dale Edwards, singer and general manager of the band. “It’s all about having fun, and that’s what life is about.”
The Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band performs beach, blues and funk music up and down the coasts of North Carolina and South Carolina. It will be the band’s second time performing at Alive After 5.
“We are humbled about being asked to come back to this event,” Edwards said. “… Lumberton always a really good place to play.”
The concerts, which are presented by the city of Lumberton, typically attract about 1,000 people. The weather forecast is perfect for a party, with temperatures around 70 degrees when the band starts playing and close to no chance of rain.
“We would like for it to be a go-to place for entertainment,” said Connie Ross, downtown development coordinator.
Other performers and dates for this year’s series are: Jim Quick and Coastline on May 16; Band of Oz on May 30; Carolina Breakers on June 13; and Craig Woolard on June 27.
