LUMBERTON — A Fayetteville man was killed Monday morning when his vehicle struck a horse on U.S. 74, according to Lumberton police.
Manzonian Martinez Hall, of Documentary Drive, was traveling east on U.S. 74 toward Kenric Drive in a 2012 Honda passenger car when it collided with a black horse that was in the road at about 4 a.m., according to a report by Sgt. Donald Southern.
The vehicle, which was traveling about 55 mph, ran off the road to the left and hit several mailboxes before coming to rest in an open field, according to the report. According to Lumberton police Capt. Ertle Jones, the horse did not survive.
The report did not indicate if Hall was wearing a seat belt.
Investigators are still trying to determine where the horse came from.
