LUMBERTON — A probation officer who lost her job after admitting to sharing her home with a convicted felon has been ordered to register as a sex offender, according to court documents.

Katrina Milstein, 47, of 5719 Old Stage Road in Fairmont, pled guilty on May 21 to the felony charge of sexual activity by a custodian, a charge for which she will serve two years of supervised probation and be labeled a sex offender for 30 years.

“It was a consensual act, but it was still prohibited by law because of him being on probation under her employer,” said Vanessa Burton, prosecutor for the state.

Milstein was also ordered to pay a total of $864.50 in fines and court fees.

A felony charge of aiding and abetting possession of a firearm by a felon, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and filing a false report, to which Milstein also pled guilty, were consolidated under the sexual activity by a custodian charge.

Milstein admitted to having a relationship with Deko Faison, then 27, of Lumberton, in 2010, after her Hyundai Elantra was stopped for a traffic violation and identification and drugs belonging to Faison were found inside, according to court documents.

Faison is currently serving a 10-and-a-half-year sentence as a habitual felon. He has been charged with 19 felonies since 2000, according to the Department of Corrections.

Gale Wilcox was Faison’s probation officer and did not know of the relationship between him and Milstein, Keith Acree, a spokesman with the state Department of Correction, told The Robesonian in 2010.

He said that there is a strict policy for probation officers to not engage in any sort of relationship with someone who is on probation.

She is my sister n law by marriage, and I agree yes she knew she was doing wrong, on her behalf I will say she knows how bad she screwed up and beats herself up so bad everyday for letting down all fellow officers and her family and most of all her son who is in college and has to hear these that people post... No matter what its his mom and he loves her, she may have only got probation but trust she is punished everyday in other ways..please consider this child and his embarrassment..I know u will say that she didnt..but please stop

What in the world is going on with all these firefighters, policemen, and probation officers? Do they need to have a reality show called Public Servants Gone Wild? and before anyone comments, let me tell you that I was in law enforcement for a number of years, so I respect those that choose to abide by the law, including our precious firefighters and others, bless them.

As for those that don't, please get your act together before you embarass yourself and your family. If you're going to get it right, let all these others be an example to you. Don't get caught out there and let somebody drag your name through the mud. Straighten up before it's too late, while you still have time.

I took care of my brother after my mom passed and he was in jail at the time. When I went to the jail to pick him up they would not release him. Come to find out that Ms.Milstein was his probation officer, who had not done her job properly and he remained in jail a day too long and she begged me not to inform her superiors and not file suit against the county. This was in "06" and needless to say that I did report this incident and she made my life a living hell and I wasn't even the parolee, just the caregiver.

Good riddance to you Ms.Milstein no love lost here.

"When you look long into the the Abyss, the Abyss looks into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Does it means that if you fight evil, you should take care that you do not become evil yourself?

Perhaps it means that if you are sufficiently attracted to 'something' in the first place to become aware of it, that 'something' has a magnetic or mesmerizing hold on you, regardless of whether it is positive or negative, good or evil. You could be in possession of minute particles of that element inside of you, which then become instantly magnetized by, or attracted to the stronger dominant force.

Probation Officers, Law Enforcement Officers, DAs,Magistrates, Judges and many many more civil service employees face MONSTERS everyday. Sometimes this is what happens.... When the Abyss looks back it is time to run not take him home with you. Lord Have Mercy....

As a former law enforcement officer myself, the wife of a man who has worn a badge for 25 years, and the mother of a fine correctional officer, this story really burns my biscuits! She should be in prison herself, because she knew policy and chose to think that it didn't apply to her. Secondly, you cannot tell me that his actual officer didn't know he was living with this woman, when offenders have to report their address, and their P.O.s are supposed to do routine visits. His supervision officer should also be investigated for failing to report this heinous offense, because if she was doing her job, there is no way she didn't know about this!!

After seeing her picture, I agree she's certainly a sex offender. It would be an offense to sex for anyone to have sex with that. As for her lover-boy, I'd have just hung him (though you can bet he already was). 19 FELONIES since 2000? What was the thing doing running around loose?

All I can say is she got less than what she deserved. I worked with her at a agency and she was a cruel person who thought she was above the rules that everyone went by...She will not be missed in the professional field...

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.
