MAXTON — A Maxton man has been arrested and charged with setting fire to a Caddell Drive home he shared with his girlfriend, according to Robeson County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth.

Daniel Lynn Bowen, 33, is charged with second-degree arson, burning of personal property and larceny in the fire that destroyed the home at 160 Caddell Drive. He is being held in the Robeson County jail under no bond.

Bowen poured gasoline “from one end of the home to the other” after a domestic dispute with Amy Collins, 24, who owned the home, Duckworth said. Collins was out obtaining a restraining order on Bowen at the time, according to Duckworth.

A neighbor reported the fire at about 9:49 a.m. on Tuesday and Maxton Southeastern and Queheel Fire Deparments were quick to respond, Duckworth said.

Damage to the home and property was reported at $10,000.

The Robeson County Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Now I don't believe in talking about people, but you can look at the man and tell he just don't look right. People, I believe we have something backwards going on around here. Why is it when somebody mad at somebody else, they try to burn down the house that they themselves live in? If I'm mad at somebody, I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face! Pray children, pray.

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.

Do you think the tax structure in North Carolina should be reformed to reduce income taxes in exchange for higher sales tax and more taxes on services?
