LUMBERTON — Southeastern Regional Medical Center, a nonprofit which provides care to more than 15,000 patients per year, is one of seven hospitals in the state to be named one of 100 “great community hospitals” by an industry publication.

The list, consisting of hospitals with fewer than 550 patient beds, was compiled for Becker’s Hospital Review, a publication with a circulation of 18,500.

“We are always pleased when our efforts are recognized by an outside agency,” said SRMC President and CEO Joann Anderson. “This type of recognition validates our commitment to provide quality, accessible health care and to lead the way in improving the health of our community.”

SRMC has 452 beds and offers acute, intensive and psychiatric care.

The hospital received an Outstanding Patient Experience Award in 2011 from HealthGrades, a company which rates hospital service. The company also recognized SRMC with awards in cardiac care and pulmonary care, and a Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence in 2012.

Other N.C hospitals making Becker’s Hospital Review’s top 100 are Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast in Concord, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, and Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.

The hospitals were selected for the list based on their “commitments to the health of their local population through clinical excellence, community involvement and various other efforts,” according to the article.

Wow bosomhandkerchief. Racist much? The doctors that live here generally go places that have paying patients. Do you hate all other nationalities and races or particularly oriental people?

Beckers must didnt know you have oriental doctors from other countries that don't care about saving lives. Where did all the doctors go that live here, to China?

If people didn't come into the er and tie up the rooms for their narcotic fix the wait times wouldn't be so bad. People in robco abuse that er. I've been in a joining room with a patient who literally begged for dilaudid pain med for her stumped toe! And everyone knew her by first name! And ps, I received swift care for my nearly amputated finger. And by the way., don't complain if you aren't even going to pay your bill but can afford your Newport cigs!

Way to go SRMC! A great hospital with a great staff of caring people for the "truely" sick. Now for those of you who have received unfavorable service from these fine folks, take a hint along with yourself somewhere else to receive free narcotics, TV and all the fod you can eat. The place can't take care of the real sick while you are there on someone elses dime. Go somewhere else if you don't have the money to pay for your care or better yet take better care of yourself so you wont become a bother. You see, the people who work here love their jobs and takeing care of the sick, but when you freeloaders come in complaining of "chestpain" to obtain percocets or better know in your world as "schoolbusses", you upset these fine folks to a point that makes it hard to care for the true needy, the ones who pay..

Happy 236th
Thousands of people were dazzled by the fireworks display at the annual Lumberton Family Fourth celebration at the Lumberton High School football stadium on Tuesday. Many watched the display from parking lots and sidewalks around town and from their own front yards. Before the show, attendees were treated to a performance by the Carolina Breakers, and a stunt by the Army Rangers, who parachuted onto the football field.

A hundred years ago, anyone who might have predicted in 1913 the monumental, man-made catastrophes that would occur in the rest of the 20th century would have been considered warped, if not completely mentally deranged. Who would have believed that the continent of Europe, which had not had a ...
