LUMBERTON — Cape Fear Arsenal Inc., a manufacturer of ammunition products in the Southeast, will locate a facility in Lumberton that will create 150 jobs and invest more than $15.2 million in the community during the next three years.
The plant will be in a vacant 65,000-square-foot building on Starlight Drive that used to house Outer Banks and most recently was home to Soldier Solutions. It has been vacant three years.
Gov. Pat McCrory and state Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker announced the company’s plans to locate in Lumberton in a statement released today.
“Our state has a strong manufacturing legacy,” McCrory said. “This new facility advances that legacy with an innovative process that will result in much-needed, high-paying jobs for workers in Robeson County.”
Cape Fear Arsenal is a private corporation that focuses on products that will primarily be sold to law enforcement, but it also expects to bid on contracts for the military and state agencies.
“CFA is very appreciative of this opportunity to partner with the state of North Carolina and Robeson County as we look to do something positive in this industry,” said David Hargitt, the CEO of the company. “Without the state and local government’s outstanding support, CFA’s ability to provide these opportunities in Lumberton would not have been possible. CFA will apply innovative manufacturing technology and the highly competent Robeson County workforce to produce various calibers of pistol ammunition for an already stressed and lacking ammunition market.”
The project was made possible in part by a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund of up to $490,000. The One North Carolina Fund provides financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.
Other partners that helped with the project include: the N.C. Department of Commerce; the N.C. Community College System; Robeson County; city of Lumberton; Robeson County Economic Development Commission; and the Robeson County Committee of 100.
“This new manufacturing facility will provide solid employment opportunities for an area that was hit hard by the recession,” Sen. Michael Walters said.
State Rep. Garland Pierce said the local workforce was a factor in the company’s decision to locate in Robeson County.
“North Carolina’s tremendous workforce continues to attract businesses to our state, and we’re excited to have Cape Fear Arsenal coming to Robeson County,” he said.

And I agree with the comment a out Rep Pierce. He is a owed as anti 2nd amendment (that's private ownership of firearms for you folks who need it broken down, so it is in my view a huge piece of hypo racy for him to try now to take some political credit for this.
Finally, I wonder of Bis Sis Janet Napalotano has already issued a contract to buy up all of their product? You can't even get a box of 22 lr cartridges thanks to her and fearless leader. It's truly sickening what they are doing, in wasting tax money, trying to control the self defense market by starving off the supply, and also another little, known order that fearless leader
I wish someone would link into the following issue. For those who don't know, govt agencies who have to carry firearms and maintain proficiency (the largest of course being the military) have to pick up all the spent brass casings from the range after a session, and put these in barrels. The federal surplus sales agency used to sell this once Jed brass to the highest bidder, Tere are several really good companies out there that had a business plan predicated on purchase of this once used brass, and reprocessing it for reloads. Brass cases can actually be reloaded typically three or four times depending on the firearm they are used in, and the got made money on this, and the shooting community had a nice source of reasonably priced target/practice grade ammo. Well, fearless leader issued an executive order that all reef covered brass had to be put I. A machine and SHREADED instead of just sold as is. This means that the reloading companies either have to tool up to smelt and cast cases, or go out of business. Most are going out of business, as he had hoped.
If Mr. Pierce wanted to do something useful (or Mr. McIntyre) they would try to get this stupid order overturned.
In the mean time, eagerly waiting for this plant to open. Maybe they will have a factory outlet. :-))!!!!
It was the democrats who made owning a gun for our people illegal a hundred and fifty years ago. Just think if we would have had guns to protect our land. Now YOU of all people would do it again if you could. Haven't you read what can happen when folks are unarmed and can't protect themselves from a corrupt government?
Shame on you buddy, shame on you. Read your history fella......
RossisRight, have you seen a medical professional about your anger issues? If not, you need to, you are angry at everything that comes in the paper. Please calm down. Take a walk, go on vacation or plant a tree or something.
I am also very happy my friend. Nothing makes me more happy than to say the things I say to folks who need to hear em.....
And yes this is great news about the jobs. But this man who wants his name attached is not gonna get a freebie from me. He doesn't want the people to own guns, the same as the government wanted us unarmed 150 years ago. read about the trail of tears my young friend. If the people had had guns, they would have never loaded up the wagon to go west young man. An unarmed man is a weak man, and ol Garland knows this. Two faced and fork tongued.
I own a business and I've dealt with this for years. Ask anyone who needs employees in this county how hard it is to get qualified applicants who can also pass a drug screen. It's pathetic. Pull your head out of the sand. I know you want to believe everything is hunky dory, but the truth is the truth. It's folks like you who deny the fact that people abuse drugs and alcohol, that are part of the problem. YOU are an enabler, a person who allows things to go unchecked because you WANT to believe bad things aren't happening. Wake up and pull your head out of the sand and stop enabling these people to continue doing bad stuff.
