LUMBERTON — Vicki Locklear easily won re-election to her fifth term as register of deeds, beating out her Democratic primary competition Hubert Sealey on Tuesday with more than 77 percent of the vote.
Locklear received 15,149 votes to Sealey’s 4,299.
“I’m so exhausted and I’m happy, and I appreciate Mr. Sealey running a clean race,” Locklear said. “I’m excited and I’m glad it’s over with.”
Because there is no Republican candidate, Locklear will be uncontested in the General Election in November. Locklear has not been challenged in an election since 1996. She has been in the Register of Deeds Office for 22 years, including six as as deputy clerk.
“The county knows me, and they know the type of work and they type of leadership that I have shown over the past 16 years,” Locklear said. “I look forward to getting back to work.”
Sealey is a county commissioner.
