LUMBERTON — Police are searching for a 25-year-old Lumberton man they say shot and killed another man on Saturday at a public housing development.
Capt. Johnny Barnes said today a warrant has been issued charging Josh Dwayne Morrison, of 306 E. Fourth St., with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Cenatae Smith, 22, of 309 Myrtle Court. Morrison is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds, according to Barnes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lumberton Police Department.
Smith was shot once in the head at 11:27 p.m. on Saturday while with a friend in the roadway of Turner Terrace, Barnes said. Barnes did not want to identify the person who was with Smith.
Smith was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center by ambulance and later transported to Duke University Medical Center, where he died.
Witnesses said they heard three gunshots, but no one else was injured, Barnes said.
Morrison has previously been charged with possession to sell and distribute marijuana, assault on a female, and trespassing.
