MAXTON — A Maxton man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 31-year-old man who was reported missing on Thursday, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Adrian Hernandez, 30, of 26 Isiah Road, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Vinson Junior Oxendine, of 199 Lakewood Drive, Maxton. Deputies found Hernandez hiding in a heating unit compartment of a mobile home in Lumber Bridge, according to sheriff’s Maj. Howard Branch. He is being held in the Robeson County jail under no bond.
Oxendine’s body was found during a search of woods near a field on Oxendine School Road. The body has been take to Chapel Hill for an autopsy by the state Medical Examiners Office.
Emily Goodman, of 409 Harper’s Ferry Road in Maxton, reported Oxendine missing on Thursday morning. She said Oxendine left at about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday to meet someone about some money and never returned, according to Branch. Oxendine’s black four-door sedan was found on the side of Arthur Road at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Branch said Hernandez was linked to the murder through “numerous interviews” and “extensive legwork” by sheriff’s deputies. U.S. marshals and State Bureau of Investigation agents helped with the investigation.
