ROWLAND — The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 2-year-old child who apparently drowned in a ditch near a relative’s home.
Sheriff’s Lt. Kathy Torre said Zaymon Locklear, of 414 Jenny Road, Rowland, was pulled from a ditch that was filled with water at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Torre said that Locklear was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Torre said that Locklear and several other children were playing outside a home at 4889 Cabinet Shop Road in Rowland when one of the adult relatives noticed Locklear missing. Torre said that Locklear’s aunt, who was babysitting him and the other children, found him and pulled him out of the ditch, which was about 55 feet from the home. She then performed CPR before calling 911.
Torre did not want to release the name of the aunt. Locklear’s parents were not at the home.
