LUMBERTON — The rebirth of the N.C. Indian Cultural Center will head the business items to be discussed by the Robeson County Board of Commissioners on Monday. The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is requesting the county to donate at least $100,000 to help fund the restoration of the Cultural Center. The tribe recently purchased the 386-acre property between Pembroke and Maxton that houses the center from the state for $351,000.Paul Brooks, the tribe’s chairman, said in a letter to the commissioners that the money is needed because federal guidelines do not allow money from the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act and other smaller grants be used for such projects.
