The event begins at 4 p.m. and features six teams from the region. West Bladen, Westover, Word of God Christian Academy and Fayetteville Christian Academy are the other four teams participating in the event.

Football classic

Lumberton High School is hosting the inaugural Battle of the Carolinas Football Classic on Aug. 13, raising money for the teams involved and giving the community an opportunity to check out some football prior to the regular season opener on Aug. 21.

The new event will feature eight teams under the lights, including three scrimmages that will pit a North Carolina team against a South Carolina team.

Representing North Carolina this fall will be three Robeson County teams — Lumberton, Purnell Swett and Fairmont — along with regional teams West Brunswick and East Bladen. Dillon, Latta and Lakeview will travel from South Carolina to participate.

The eight schools will share the money raised by the event. Each school will get 200 discounted tickets for sale in advance of the event with all money going back to the school. Ticket revenue at the gate, which will jump from $5 to $7, will be split between the teams after expenses are paid.

The night will begin with East Bladen against Latta at 6 p.m., followed by Fairmont vs. Lakeview at 7. The late scrimmages will include Purnell Swett vs. West Brunswick at 8 and Lumberton vs. Dillon at 9.
