Lady Pirates defeat Fairmont

FAIRMONT — Lumberton’s girls tennis team defeated Fairmont 8-1 in a Wednesday match, the season opener for both teams.

Fairmont’s sole win came in one of the three doubles matches.

Seniors Abby Kinlaw (Court 1), Abagial Cain (Court 2), Kaylynn Leggette (Court 4), Haley Biggins (Court 5) and Lane Hickman (Court 6) were all victorious in singles play.

The Lady Pirates doubles teams of Kinlaw and freshman Abagial Campbell (Court 1) and Biggins and Hickman (Court 3) also posted victories.

Lumberton drops second game

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton High School volleyball team lost its second straight game to start the season, dropping a contest to South View on Wednesday.

The Pirates (0-2) lost 25-23, 31-29 and 25-16 in straight sets to the Tigers (1-1).

“We had way too many mistakes,” said Lumberton coach Jeff McLamb.

Mariah Locklear led Lumberton with eight kills and Kortnee Floyd finished with 17 assists.
