Travel hoops team holding tryouts

The Thunder travel basketball organization is holding tryouts for middle school and high school kids on Sunday.

The teams, based in Robeson County, will feature players from 4th to 11th grades and will be hosted by the Pine Street Activity Center in Lumberton.

The 4th to 7th grade girls will practice from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with the same age group of boys following from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The 8th to 11th grade girls will cap the tryouts from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Youth baseball registration begins Feb. 1

The Lumberton Youth Baseball Association will start its registration process for the 2016 season on Feb. 1 at the Bill Sapp Recreation Center.

Registration cost is $25 per player. Registrations will be taken from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 1, Feb. 2 and Feb. 3 in the Teen Room during normal business hours at the recreation center office.

Players must be age 7 or cannot turn age 16 by April 1, 2016 in order to play. Players ages 7 to 12 participate in Dixie Youth Baseball and players ages 13 to 15 participate in Babe Ruth Baseball. Coaches are also needed for all leagues. LYBA will also be hosting several District and State tournaments in Lumberton this summer.
