Fairmont survives to stay perfect

The Fairmont boys basketball team got all it could handle from Whiteville on Tuesday, but survived to take a 65-59 victory.

The Golden Tornadoes jumped out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, but the teams were nearly even the rest of the way.

Each squad had three players finish in double figures. Fairmont’s Isaiah Inman scored 13 points and dished out 10 assists to record a double-double, with Julius Caulder and Alshaquan Williams dropping 17 points each.

Fairmont girls fall to Whiteville

The Fairmont girls basketball team fell short against Whiteville on Tuesday, falling 43-34 at home.

The Golden Tornadoes were outscored 12-5 in the fourth quarter by the Wolfpack.

Marsha Clewis notched a double-double for Fairmont, with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Destiny McMillian scored a game-high 14 points to go with eight boards.

St. Pauls boys bounce back

Behind three players in double figures, the St. Pauls boys basketball team beat South Robeson 70-57 on Tuesday.

Dante Burden led the Bulldogs with 20 points, with Deonte Bridges adding 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double and Tedrick McNeill contributing 12 points. Burden also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists.

Davonte Banks scored a game-best 21 points to lead South Robeson, with Johnny Pipken adding 15. Each player grabbed eight rebounds.

In junior varsity action, South Robeson beat St. Pauls 38-32.

South Robeson girls rout Bulldogs

The South Robeson girls claimed a 60-38 win over St. Pauls on Tuesday, with three players leading the way in double figures.

A’Terria Quick recorded a double-double for the Lady Mustangs, scoring 28 points to go with 13 rebounds. She also had seven assists, five steals and three blocks. Desaree Dunham and Carrington Mitchell scored 10 points each for South Robeson, with Chania Troy grabbing 11 rebounds.

Aquilla Rozier scored nine points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, with Destiny Hardin contributing 14 rebounds.

In junior varsity action, St. Pauls beat South Robeson 26-21.

Red Springs boys win, girls lose at E. Columbus

The Red Springs boys basketball team claimed a 64-55 win over East Columbus on Tuesday.

Eric Graham led the way for the Red Devils, scoring 23 points and grabbing 17 rebounds to record a double-double. Monte Wilkerson scored 21 points to go with eight steals and Caleel Mitchell finished with 10 points, six steals and four assists.

In varsity girls action, the Lady Red Devils dropped a 55-46 contest to the Gators.
