Red Springs’ Saul Lopez and Bernardo Padron won the doubles championship at the 2A Three Rivers Conference boys tennis tournament on Wednesday at Fairmont.

The Red Devil duo won 7-5, lost 6-4 and won 6-4 to claim the match against Alex Hernandez and Victor Garcia of St. Pauls. Hunter Dudley and Jaylyn McNair earned third place for the Bulldogs, defeating Fairmont’s Caleb Argueta and Anthony Swett, Jr.

South Columbus’ Mason Hewitt won the singles championship against teammate Noah Jarman. Nick Crenshaw earned a third-place finish for the Bulldogs in the singles event.

The players will compete in the 2A regionals next week.

Pirates, Rams compete at SEC tourney

The Lumberton and Purnell Swett boys tennis teams competed in the Southeastern Conference tournament on Wednesday at Hoke, with the Pirates and Rams sending players to regionals.

Lumberton’s Dominic Dent and Alex Wober claimed third in doubles, earning a spot in the 4A regionals next week in Wilmington.

Purnell Swett’s Cam Richardson earned a fifth-place finish in singles, defeating teammate Bailey Dial to earn a spot in next week’s regionals.

Pinecrest swept the event, with Aiden Temple winning the singles title for the Patriots and the duo of Will Bahner and Caleb Eason claiming the doubles championship.
