Lumberton volleyball falls on the road

HOPE MILLS — Struggles serving the ball led the Lumberton volleyball team to its first loss of the season in a three-set contest at South View on Monday.

The Lady Pirates (3-1) lost the three sets 25-23, 25-16 and 26-24.

“(We) beat ourselves by not getting the serves over and doing the little things that win big ballgames,” Lumberton coach Tre’ Britt said.

Lumberton plays at Fairmont on Wednesday.

St. Pauls tops Lady Rams

The St. Pauls girls tennis team defeated Purnell Swett at home by a 7-2 score on Monday.

St. Pauls received wins from Hailey Hughes, Brianda Barrera, Isabella Dugarteand Lillian Cummings in singles play. In doubles, Hughes and Abiagale Moncrief picked up wins along with Dugarte and Cummings.

Purnell Swett claimed wins in the No. 1 singles and doubles matches with Brooke Huggins winning in singles and with teammate Kari Brooks in the doubles match.

In other tennis action, Lumberton lost 9-0 to Whiteville. The Pirates host West Columbus this afternoon.

South View holds off St. Pauls soccer

After taking an early lead, St. Pauls fell at home to South View on Monday as the visitors posted three goals in the second half for a 3-1 win.

The Bulldogs (0-3) lone goal came from Alexis Mendez.

St. Pauls plays at Hoke on Wednesday.
