LUMBERTON — Fairmont’s Kierra Fuqua and Sharee Woodell claimed the doubles title at the 2A Three Rivers Conference girls tennis championships on Wednesday at Lumberton High School.

The duo topped St. Pauls’ Brianda Barrera and Nayeli Estrada, 6-0, 6-0, to win top honors. Red Springs’ Gabrielle Pecina and Stephanie Alejandro earned third place in doubles.

The singles championship featured sisters Mary and Elizabeth Koonce from South Columbus battling for the title, with Elizabeth winning in three sets. St. Pauls’ Hailey Hughes earned a third-place finish.

The 2A NCHSAA state playoffs start Friday with individual regionals. The dual-team playoffs start Tuesday.
