Bulldogs top West Bladen in five innings

BLADENBORO — The St. Pauls baseball team earned a 12-0 win over West Bladen on Friday, beating the Knights in five innings.

Jeremiah Locklear pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Bulldogs (3-0), with J.J. Oxendine adding a pair of RBIs. Ted McNeil and Trevon Locklear finished with a pair of hits for St. Pauls.

St. Pauls will begin Three Rivers Conference play on Tuesday when it travels to Red Springs.

Rams earn sweep at Westover

FAYETTEVILLE — The Purnell Swett baseball team swept Westover in a doubleheader on Friday, winning 18-0 and 15-1 in Fayetteville.

In the first game, the Rams scored runs in the first three innings, highlighted with a nine-run third frame. Purnell Swett used a 10-run second inning in the final game to spark the rout.

Bladen Strickland earned the win on the mound for the Rams in the second game. Purnell Swett will be back in action on Wednesday at Terry Sanford.

Ledwell lifts Pirates over Cape Fear

FAYETTEVILLE — Behind the pitching of Parks Ledwell, the Lumberton baseball team earned a 4-3 win at Cape Fear on Friday, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Ledwell claimed the win on the mound for the Pirates, with A.J. Brooks earning a save. Brooks also finished with a hit for the Pirates along with Daniel Carter.

Lumberton will host Overhills on Monday.

Lady Bulldogs blast Douglas Byrd

FAYETTEVILLE — The St. Pauls softball team jumped on Douglas Byrd early en route to earning a 16-6 win on the road Friday night.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-0) scored nine runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second to spark the victory.

Brianna Brewer, Cierra Young, Kenna O’Quinn, Danielle Gray and Kenija McGougan tallied two hits each for St. Pauls. Jacobs, Young and McGougan also collected a pair of RBIs each.

Brewer earned the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs, who travel to Red Springs on Tuesday.

Lady Pirates fall at Cape Fear

FAYETTEVILLE — Madison Canady blasted a two-run homer for the Lumberton softball team on Friday at Cape Fear, but the Lady Pirates fell 6-2 on the road.

Lumberton will look to get back on track when it hosts South View on Wednesday.

Lumberton draws, other county soccer teams falter

Brooke Taylor tallied two goals in a 2-2 draw for the Lumberton girls soccer team at Pine Forest on Friday, while Red Springs, Purnell Swett and St. Pauls fell in road contests.

Sallee Jones finished with two assists for the Lady Pirates, who host Hoggard on Monday.

The Lady Red Devils fell 9-0 at East Bladen, with St. Pauls losing 1-0 at Douglas Byrd and Purnell Swett dropping a 2-0 match at Jack Britt.
