Fairmont’s Parker wins TRC golf match

LUMBER BRIDGE — Fairmont’s Zach Parker earned top honors in the Three Rivers Conference golf match at Scothurst golf course on Monday, claiming a four-stroke victory to take the title.

Parker carded a 2-over-par 74 to win the match, with South Columbus’ Wesley Bryant earning runner-up honors with a 78.

The Golden Tornadoes earned second as a team, finishing eight strokes back of the Stallions. Whiteville came in third, followed by Red Springs and South Robeson.

South Robeson’s Zachary Brayboy led the Mustangs with an 87, with Preston Locklear shooting a 93 to pace the Red Devils.

Daniel Leonard carded an 83 for Fairmont, with Josh Johnson posting 88, Lucas Andrews shooting 90 and Chandler Campbell finishing with a 97.

The next Three Rivers Conference match will be Monday at Land-O-Lakes Golf Club in Whiteville.

Mustangs split with Fairmont

ROWLAND — The South Robeson softball team earned a 14-7 win over Fairmont on Tuesday, but the baseball team dropped a 7-3 contest to the Golden Tornadoes.

Harmony Oxendine led the Lady Mustangs in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate, notching the win with 13 strikeouts and finishing with a homer and four RBIs.

Destiny Strickland logged a double and home run for South Robeson and finished with a pair of RBIs. Fairmont committed seven errors in the game, allowing 11 unearned runs.

Morgan Scott and Marie Brewer led the Golden Tornadoes with a pair of hits each.

In baseball action, Randy Floyd struck out eight batters, picking up the win on the mound, and finished with a pair of hits to lead the Golden Tornadoes. Floyd also scored a pair of runs, with Seth Thorndyke adding two RBIs and Skyler Hunt logging two hits.

Zack Carter led the Mustangs with three hits. Bob Butler added two hits and Braylon Hunt logged a home run.

Lady Rams blow by West Bladen

PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett girls soccer team won for the fourth time in five games a 9-0 win against West Bladen on Tuesday.

Maddison Oxendine and Abi Lowry netted four goals each to lead the Lady Rams (4-1), who jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half. Bethany Hunt added the final goal for the mercy-rule win.

Purnell Swett will open Southeastern Conference play next Wednesday at Scotland.

Lumberton tennis improves to 2-0

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton boys tennis team earned an 8-1 win over West Columbus on Tuesday, winning its second straight game to start the season.

Seniors Dominic Dent and Alex Wober led the Pirates, who will open Southeastern Conference play on Thursday at Pinecrest.
