South Robeson takes softball sweep

ST. PAULS — The South Robeson softball team picked up two wins over St. Pauls on the road on Tuesday with a 13-3 win in game one and a 8-1 victory in game two.

Harmony Oxendine picked up both wins pitching for the Lady Mustangs (6-6, 5-3 TRC) and also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the second game.

Halei Chavis went 4-for-4 in the first game with two inside the park home runs and four RBIs to help the Lady Mustangs’ offense in the opener. For St. Pauls (5-9, 1-8 TRC) in game one, Victoria Gooden went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

In game two, Chavis and Oxendine’s bats led the way with Chavis going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Brianna Brewer had a double and an RBI for the Lady Bulldogs.

Bulldogs hold South Robeson baseball hitless

ST. PAULS — Jeremiah Locklear and Dawson Caulder combined to throw a no-hitter in five innings as the St. Pauls baseball team picked up a 13-0 Three Rivers Conference win over South Robeson at home.

Locklear pitched the first three innings and struck out three batters before Caulder tossed the last two with two strike outs.

St. Pauls (12-2, 6-2 TRC) scored in all four innings it went to the plate with Darren Bowen leading the cast of hitters with his four-RBI game. He went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as well. Ted McNeill and Jordan Thomas each had two RBIs, while Trevan Locklear and Caulder each added an RBI as well.

Pinecrest takes hold of SEC lead with close win over Rams

SOUTHERN PINES — The Pinecrest baseball team dug itself out of a three-run hole through five innings to take over sole possession of first place in the Southeastern Conference with a 6-5 win over Purnell Swett at home.

The Rams (8-6, 3-2 SEC) built a 5-2 lead through five innings before the Patriots (11-3, 4-1 SEC) hung four runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth and then came up with the defensive plays in the seventh to hold on to the win.

Chandler Brayboy went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs for Purnell Swett. Balden Strickland had two RBIs and Braydon Scott added the other RBI. McKinley Strickland was the only other Ram with multiple hits with two.

Ethan Chavis struck out nine in his 5 1/3 innings on the mound.

Lady Pirates fall in pitching duel

ROCKINGHAM — Both pitchers struck out 11 batters in the game, but it was an error in the third inning that was the difference as the Lumberton softball team lost 1-0 at Richmond Senior.

The game pitting the two top teams in the conference fit the billing with Lumberton’s (10-3, 4-1 SEC) Morgan Britt and Richmond’s (12-1, 5-0 SEC) Mackenzie Ward taking command of the game by matching each others strikeout and hit counts.

The lone run came in the bottom of the third when Savannah Lampley singled and then advanced on an error. In the next at bat, Owen Bowers singled her in.

Lumberton’s hits came from Britt, Kasey West, Madison Canady, Rachel O’Neil and Katie Kinlaw.
