ROWLAND — Sophomore pitcher Zack Carter threw a complete game and kept the Red Springs baseball team scoreless in South Robeson’s 6-0 win at home on Wednesday.

Carter allowed four hits and struck out 12 for the Mustangs. At the plate he also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Helping out South Robeson at the plate was Bob Butler with two hits, Raquan Patterson with an RBI triple and Jolan Locklear with two runs scored.

Two runs in the fifth inning gave the South Robeson softball team enough insurance to finish off Red Springs 5-2 at home.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Mustangs (11-8, 8-8 TRC) scored two runs on a Halei Chavis RBI double and a Tracy Jacobs bunt with the bases loaded to distance themselves from the Lady Red Devils (12-10, 6-7 TRC)

Red Springs scored one of its two runs on a solo home run from Katelyn Culbreth in the second inning.

In the circle for the Lady Mustangs, Harmony Oxendine picked up the win and struck out four batters.

Lumberton wins high-scoring game against Lady Rams

PEMBROKE — The Lumberton softball team rallied to earn a 19-10 victory over rival Purnell Swett behind eight runs in the fifth inning.

Madison Canady had a solo home run in the first inning for the Lady Pirates and finished with two hits. Kasey West and Morgan Britt each had two hits in the game and Britt earned the pitching win.

Kaitlyn Hunt had three hits and an RBI for Purnell Swett. Desaree Dunham had two hits and an RBI as well.

In soccer, the Lady Pirates fended off the Lady Rams to claim a 1-0 victory. Brooke Taylor netted the difference maker on an assist from Harley Wilkerson late in the first half.

Lumberton will be back on the pitch Friday at Scotland.
