Lumberton opens with convincing win, 67-55

SANFORD - The Lumberton High boys basketball team got out of the gate successfully Tuesday night with a 67-55 win over Lee County High.

Senior Duwain Ford led the Pirates with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Danmeon Campbell added 16 points.

Lumberton, 1-0, sealed the win with a 22-13 fourth-quarter surge.

Lady Pirates lose, 59-43

In Sanford, the Lumberton High girls didn't fare as well in the season opener, falling 59-43 to Lee County.

“We're a pretty young team, but I did see some bright spots,” Lumberton coach Danny Graham said.

Tiffany Lamb led the Lady Pirates , 0-1, with 14 points.

Lady 'Stangs nipped

In Rowland, the Lady Mustangs of South Robeson saw their 34-27 fourth-quarter lead evaporate and dropped a 42-41 verdict to Flora Macdonald.

South Robeson, 0-1, was led by Veronica Brown's 22 points, while Flora Macdonald, 3-0, got 16 points from Brittany Oxendine and 15 from Kayla Currie.

Rams fall, 54-51

In Raeford, the Purnell Swett High boys basketball team's fourth-quarter rally fell short against Hoke County, and the Rams fell in the season-opener, 54-51.

Swett, 0-1, was led by Justin Jacobs's 18 points and Jesse Locklear's 12 points.

The Rams were outscored 16-3 in the second quarter.
