After the loss in the championship to cross-county rival Fairmont, the Lady Red Devils were determined to not let that game get them down and blasted their Southeastern Conference foe off their court, 62-37.
“We came out and executed with lots of pressure defense,” said assistant coach Tim Heath. “It was one of our best efforts this season and we just wore them down.”
Senior forward Cassaundra Bell was the force behind the Lady Devils, scoring a game-high 20 points and unofficially, pulled down 17 rebounds. A total of 10 girls got in the scoring column for Red Springs, who moved to 12-1 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the conference.
The Lady Red Devils jumped out to take a 19-11 lead after one quarter and then doubled their scoring the second quarter, holding a 38-19 cushion at the half.
Jatoya Kemp had 18 points for East Bladen
Red Devils drop another one
The boys’ basketball team continues to struggle this season as they dropped their eleventh game of the season, falling 73-38 to the Eagles in the nightcap.
Senior guard William Jackson led all scorers with 19 points, with 15 points coming off five three-pointers. Chris Williams was the only other Red Springs player in double figures with 10 points.
Mike Smith had 17 points and Geoffrey Briant had 16 points to lead East Bladen.
Taking on Fairmont
The Lady Devils were out to avenge their only loss and took on Monique Floyd and the Lady Tornadoes of Fairmont last night at Red Springs High, but no score was available due to press deadlines.
