To the Editor,

I want to respond to Fairmont Mayor Charles Kemp’s opinion piece published Dec. 1 and titled “No chaos at town election.”

Let’s get the record straight. My protest Nov. 14 before the Robeson County Board of Election was taken under oath and recorded. If Mayor Kemp had been there, he would have known that.

Fact No. 1: Mayor Kemp should obtain the minutes of the Robeson County Board of Election meetings. I suggest Aug. 16 through Nov. 1.

In fact, Mayor Kemp will find out the Aug. 16 meeting talks about combining Fairmont, St. Pauls and Red Springs polling sites.

There are 41 precinct chairmen in Robeson County to the best of my knowledge; none of us attended. What took place in that meeting should have stayed there until all of the dots were connected. But somehow it found its way back to Fairmont and on its town’s monthly commissioner agenda, as well as its newsletter.

I know the person who leaked this back, and Mayor Kemp knows as well.

Fact No. 2: According to the minutes of the Robeson County Board of Election, on Oct. 18 elections Director Dock Locklear recommended that we continue with the system we currently have in place concerning voting for Nov. 8.

Fact No. 3: Precinct 1’s site moved without the U.S. Justice Department approval, which means votes cast were illegal on Nov. 8.

Mayor Kemp, you refer to “Webster.” Look up truth, you lack that. The next time, keep your mouth shut!

How do you like those apples? Not too sweet.

Terry Evans

Fairmont

Terry Evans ran unsuccessfully for the Fairmont Board of Commissioners and is appealing the results of that election — editor.
