Tribal Council members are stealing from the Lumbee people

To the Editor,

In response to Eric Locklear’s letter to the editor on June 12, I agree with you 100 percent.

Who do the Tribal Council members think they are? Eighteen thousand dollars to purchase Ipads for each member of the council, $55,000 for trips to Alaska, and $50 per month for each council member to have Internet cards for these Ipads? That money can help a lot of tribal members in a number of needy ways, but the council doesn’t care. All they are out for is themselves. Half of them probably don’t even know how to use an Ipad.

Tribal council members, stop stealing from the Lumbee people.

This sort of thing only gets worse with federal recognition. More money means more corruption.

Although I am not a Lumbee I do live in Robeson County and have made it my home for the past 37 years. I have personally known people who honestly needed help from the Lumbee Tribe but were turned down. I agree with the comments made by the other readers, it is a disgrace to have so many elderly suffering in this heat (and the cold) while the so called leaders live it up on money that was targeted to help their people. If they were going to buy ipads why not do it for our school children and pay for them to have home access to the internet so they can do their research projects instead of having to find ways to the library? I would really like to visit Alaska as I am sure many of the Lumbee would like to do as well...perhaps their next outing could include the entire tribal population?

So many elderly that need air conditioners this summer and our educated elected officials would rather spend monies on IPADS and expensive trips. The elderly need so much more than IPADS!

That's why when tribal members go for services/help the office personnel act as if the members are trying to steal something.

The 2 locklears are telling the truth bout LUMBEE council. So many lumbees in need and there spending all this money on themselves. Thank u council. Only federal recognition we should get is that we Elect greedy idiots as our leaders . I quess in a way , we have only ourselves to blame. But we can change it, next tribal elections let's get out and voice our opinion !
