LUMBERTON — So far no giraffes have been entered in the Cutest Pet contest, but that hasn’t stopped the competition from being neck-and-neck.

From pouty puppies to kooky cats, The Robesonian’s contest is chock-full of characters — Jack Russell Terrier-Basset Hound mixes, Yorkies and Great Pyrenees.

The contest is free to enter for owners of all pets, regardless of leg count, and the person with the cutest creature will have something else to cuddle up to — a $250 prize.

Participants can submit a photo, title and description of their special friend by visiting www.robesonian.com and clicking the Contests section, which can be found under the Features tab.

Readers can vote beginning Sept. 17 by logging in with their current user name and password, or by creating a new one by clicking the Register Now tab on the top right corner of the contest window. Votes are free and can be cast once a day until Sept. 30.

So log on and enter for a chance to win bragging rights and to answer that age-old question as to why the chicken crossed the road.

Spoiler alert — it was to beat the competition.
