To the Editor,

As a young couple buying property to begin our life, you can’t imagine the horror of finding out that the county commissioner for my district, Raymond Cummings, said that nobody lives on Philadelphus Road. This statement was made when outside investors proposed turning the property they own located across the road, about 300 feet from my property, into a sand-mine operation.

I was in the process of building a house. Life for my family is a waiting game. This is costing us money and time, not to mention the unrest of knowing that we will lose the dream.

Our community has filed an appeal to try and stop this company, which has changed its name. Word on the street was don’t fight it, it’s a done deal. It is obvious Raymond Cummings is not in touch with his community.

Since Raymond Cummings led the vote and said that I did not exist, answer my questions: How will my wife sleep during the day because she works third shift? How will I get a good night sleep with the bright lights from the facility shining in my windows all night? How do I keep my dogs from barking all day at the noise from the facility? Are you going to fence in my yard to keep my dogs from being hit by the transfer trucks driving right in front of my driveway? Can you assure me there will not be an accident? How can I drink the water when it is polluted with fuel and chemicals. Are you going to buy my property or reduce my taxes?

My property value will decrease and nobody will want to buy this property.

I pay taxes along with the Philadelphus community. We exist and are in need of answers.

The Robesonian, if you keep digging this may not be the only self-serving deal that Raymond Cummings has led the pack of commissioners to pass.

Robeson County please take head. This Company and the Commissioners will now try to waste more TAX Dollars to protect this outside investor. They are not interested in investing the tax dollars on education or county services. Please encourage the Commissioners to protect the citizens that live here! We pay taxes and our children will pay taxes. Protect us instead of allowing a SAND PIT to destroy our farmland/residential area. They will leave us in the dust that Raymond Cummings piled up for his personal bucket to take all the way to the bank. Thank You robesonian! We are still praying for a change.www commissioners need to be held accountable. If they can throw our community in a pit, Yours may be next. Our county has money for improvement. Make sure it is spent wisely!PROTECT YOUR COMMUNITY because the commissioners will not!

That's a sad situation all right, but don't go too hard on Raymond Cummings. You see, he's doing THE BEST he can. I agree his BEST is not quite up to a normal person, but it IS his best. I expect he turned that sand mine into a GOLD MINE for his own pockets. That's all he knows. He can't help it. But he DOES look like he's eating right well, dosen't he?
