To the Editor,
The Robeson County Fair is almost here, opening this Friday when youngsters will have a half day of school. The Fair Board always advertises the fair as having something for everyone. Well, this year, they are starting the fair experience with the cover of the fair program being a “scratch & sniff” — scratch the program cover and it smells like cotton candy — so dear to my heart. That feature should bring out the kid in all of us.
The Fair Board is excited to be presenting two new free shows — the Caboodle Stoppers and Close Encounters — both deemed as family entertainment of the highest caliber. They are pleased to be offering last year’s well-received Monster Truck Show twice during the first Saturday, a matinee and an evening performance. The Puppertone Rockers, my favorite, will once again have us jumping and jiving.
Money earned from last year’s fair went into new lighting in all the buildings and improvement to the back parking area with 18 new lights. And, the exit strategy has been improved with the road marked for two lanes instead of one.
If memory serves me correctly, this will be my 23rd year enjoying the fair and serving the great people of Robeson County — my home now for the last three years.
