LUMBERTON — The Colonel Thomas Robeson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, of Lumberton, honored two students at its annual February George Washington Tea.

Jonathan Mauldin, a seventh-grader at Lumberton Junior High School and the son of Cynthia and Randy Mauldin, won for his essay entitled “The Ideals of the Gettysburg Address.” He was presented a pin and a certificate.

The 2009 DAR Good Citizen is Bradley Neil Smith, a senior at Lumberton High School and the son of Mona and Donnie Smith. The Good Citizen is chosen by the staff at the school and must exhibit the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. He was presented a certificate and was pinned by his mother.

Both will now compete at the North Carolina DAR District level.

The event was held in the Osterneck Auditorium of the Robeson County Public Library building in Lumberton on Feb. 17.
