LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Board of Commissioners will be asked Monday to approve two Governor’s Highway Safety grants for the Sheriff’s Office that will fund two DWI officers and two traffic officers.

According to Randall Graham, internal affairs investigator with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, this is the third and final year for the grant that provides for the traffic officers, and the third year of a four-year grant providing for the DWI officers.

Graham said the officers who have been funded through the two grants have been used to beef up enforcement in high-crime areas and to work closely with the county’s Narcotics Division.

The commissioners at Monday’s meeting will also:

n Hear a presentation from Blake Tyner concerning the Robeson County History Museum.

n Hear a presentation on Pembroke’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan from a representative of the state Department of Transportation’s planning branch. The town’s plan is being presented to the commissioners because some of the recommendations will extend into the county outside the town. The commissioners will be asked to formally adopt the plan in November.

n Be updated by Herman Locklear, director of career and technical education for the Public Schools of Robeson County, on the upcoming Nov. 15 Career Expo that will be held at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Events Center. Locklear will also discuss needs at the Robeson County Career Center.

n Consider a resolution approving the deletion of a portion of Dana Road from the state’s secondary road system.

n Consider providing an additional $6,908 for the county’s match for Lumberton Regional Airport’s Acquisition & Obstruction Removal Runway 5 approach grant.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the commissioners room at the county administration building on North Elm Street.
