LUMBERTON — A 47-year-old Lumberton woman has died from injuries she suffered when her sports utility vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Regan Church Road, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Thelma Lou Ann Coe, of 178 Lee Britt Road, was driving north at about 11:45 p.m. Friday when her 2000 Chevrolet SUV ran off of the road to the right, came back onto the road and exited it again to the right, striking a utility pole, according to the report by Trooper B.K. Covington.

Coe, who was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt, was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and died Saturday morning, according to Highway Patrol.

The SUV was traveling 75 mph in the 55-mph zone, according to the report. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $6,000. The accident happened about seven miles north of Lumberton.
