Lumberton

Phyllis McArthur, 64, of Lumberton, passed away on Nov. 1, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton, the Rev. James Dobson officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary Cemetery in Rowland.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1948, in Rogersville, Tenn. She previously worked as an insurance representative for Jefferson Pilot.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, John Douglas McArthur.

McArthur is survived by her husband, Bobby K. McArthur of the home; her mother, Imogene Burton of Lumberton; her daughter, Angela Burton Holmes of Lumberton; three sisters, Katherine Aubin, Sheila Atkinson and Charlene Butler, all of Lumberton; three grandchildren, Candice, Courtney and Justin; four great-grandchildren, Landon, Braydon, Chloe and Madison; and her special Chihuahua, Pablo.

The family will receive friends at the graveside after the services.

Cleamiller Locklear, 85, of 111 Tractor Lane, was born July 6, 1927, and departed this life on Nov. 1, 2012.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at White Hill Freewill Baptist Church, the Revs. Kenny Mitchell, Floyd Hunt and Scotty Chavis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Josiah and Cola Mae Locklear; two half sisters, Bessie Summers and Corya Gray; a half brother, Curtis Locklear; a sister, Mary Dial; and two brothers, Alton Locklear and Sam Locklear.

Locklear is survived by his wife, Rosie Lee Locklear of the home; a daughter, Rose Marie Sheffield; three sons, Joseph Earl Locklear of Maxton, and Cleve Locklear and Shelby Ray Locklear, both of Rowland; two grandchildren, Torri Bryant (Brice), and Isaac White; a great-grandchild, Master Cutler Wes Bryant; two sisters, Vienna Locklear and Clara Mae Jacobs, both of Maxton; three brothers, Bobby Locklear and Grady Locklear, both of Maxton, and Wade Locklear of Charlotte; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Karen Floyd Gregory, 45, of Hampton, Va., departed this life for her heavenly home on Oct. 29, 2012.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Dr. David Elks officiating.

Karen was born April 8, 1967, in Lumberton. She graduated from Lumberton Senior High School in 1985 and from Western Carolina University in 1989. She married her best friend, Scott Gregory, in 1992 and moved to Hampton. She worked in optometry and volunteered at Kraft Elementary School.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Davis Floyd.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, David Scott Gregory; a son, David Gregory; a daughter, Sarah Gregory of the home; her father, Dan Floyd of Lumberton; her brother, Dan Floyd of Lincoln, Neb.; her sister, Layne Monteiro of Lumberton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Doris Sampson Jacobs passed away on Nov. 1, 2012.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Swansboro, Dr. Gerald Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Doris was born on June 14, 1934, in Lumberton, where she grew up on a farm. Later she lived in Elizabeth City, Bolton and Wilmington and made Swansboro her home.

She graduated from the Durham Institute of Barbering in Durham and was one of the first female barbers to graduate from that college in the early ’70s. We her family are so glad that God made our mama.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Jacobs of Swansboro; a son, Christopher Jacobs of Swansboro; her mother, Vernon Sampson Freeman of Lumberton, and a mother-in-law, Idell Smith Jacobs of Bolton.

Doris leaves behind her daughters, Barbara Jacobs Howerton of Swansboro, and Sharon Jacobs Murray and husband Rufus of Cedar Point; three sons, Wilbert Jacobs and girlfriend Beth Peiffer of Jacksonville, Perry Jacobs and wife Evelyn of Stella, and Dale Jacobs and wife Vicky of Greenville; seven grandchildren, Clark Howerton and Ashley Howerton, both of Wilmington, Christopher Jacobs of Jacksonville, Mariah Jacobs of Wilmington, Mason Jacobs of Stella, and Sam and Matt Jacobs, both of Greenville; special friends, Elizabeth Baggs and Betty Ann Rawls of Swansboro; and a caregiver, Mary Hutchins of Jacksonville.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro.

Maerena “Rena” Currin Thompson, 90, of Lumberton, died Nov. 1, 2012, at the home of her niece in Johns Island, S.C.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gardens of Faith Mausoleum, Pastor Jeff Broadwell officiating.

She was born in Granville County on Sept. 8, 1922, to the late William B. Currin and the late Jessie Fipps. She was a longtime member of Long Branch Baptist Church and worked as a bookkeeper for BB&T for 38 years.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, G. Earl Thompson.

Thompson is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held after the service at the mausoleum

Curtis is survived by four sons, Curtis Faircloth Jr. of Roseboro, Ray Faircloth of Hope Mills, Terry Faircloth of Eastover, and William Faircloth of Eastover; a brother, Frank Faircloth of Lumberton; a sister, Rebecca Miller of Lumberton; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Horac Jr. Cummings and Alon Cummings of Pembroke; a daughter, Michelle Cummings of Lumberton; three brothers, Bobby Locklear, James Stacy Locklear and Robert Earl Locklear of Lumberton; three sisters, Marnece Locklear and Hazel Carter, both of Lumberton, and Verlene Tyner of Pembroke; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ivy A. Howell, 83, of 61 Bucket Road, Lumberton, died Nov. 1, 2012, at Care & Rehabilitation.
