WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama rolled to re-election Tuesday night, vanquishing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney despite a weak economy that plagued his first term and put a crimp in the middle class dreams of millions.

In victory, Obama spoke to thousands of cheering supporters, praising Romney and promising that better days are ahead. “While our road has been hard, though our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up. We have fought our way back and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America, the best is yet to come,” he said.

Romney made a graceful concession speech before a disappointed crowd in Boston. He summoned all Americans to pray for Obama and urged the night’s political winners to put partisan bickering aside and “reach across the aisle” to tackle the nation’s problems.

GOP poised to pick up at least 3 seats in NC

CHARLOTTE — North Carolina Republicans have picked up at least three Congressional seats with one race that was still close to call.

Heading into the election, Republicans held six of the state’s 13 Congressional seats. But with new political maps drawn by the Republican-controlled state legislature last year, the GOP was poised to pick up a few new ones.

The only race that was undecided was in the 7th District, where veteran Congressman Mike McIntyre, a Democrat, was facing GOP challenger David Rouzer.

With 100 percent of the district’s precincts reporting unofficial returns, McIntyre had a 378-vote lead in a race that appeared headed for a recount.

A member of his party’s conservative Blue Dog caucus, McIntyre, 56, was trying to win a 9th term against Rouzer, 40, a two-term state senator.

In another high-profile and bitterly contested race, Republican Richard Hudson beat incumbent U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell in the 8th District.

McCrory wins NC governor; Coleman and Forest close

RALEIGH — Former Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory was elected governor over Democrat Walter Dalton with 55 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. McCrory lost to Democrat Beverly Perdue in 2008, when Obama won North Carolina by 14,000 votes. Perdue didn’t seek re-election this year.

The race for lieutenant governor between Republican Dan Forest and Democrat Linda Coleman was too close to call early Wednesday.

Forest is the son of retiring U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick of Charlotte and leaned on his party’s tea party and evangelical blocs. Coleman has been a state worker for more than 30 years and was most recently Gov. Beverly Perdue’s state personnel director before stepping down to run for the state’s No. 2 office.

Pridgen unseated by Waddell

LUMBERTON — According to the state Board of Elections, Rep. G.L. Pridgen lost his District 46 seat to Ken Waddell, who took 54 percent of the vote. House District 46 formerly encompassed Robeson, Hoke and Scotland counties, but was redrawn to include Robeson, Bladen and Columbus counties.

In Robeson County, Pridgen secured the majority vote, at 64 percent.

Walters secures re-election bid

RALEIGH — According to the state Board of Elections, Sen. Michael Walters has secured his bid for re-election with 72 percent of the vote. In Robeson County, Walters received 77 percent of the popular vote.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the people of the district, working on issues of education, jobs and the economy,” Walters told The Robesonian. “… I have to think that the vote I received indicates that the people know that I listen to and know the needs of District 13.”

Taylor remains in District 7

LUMBERTON — Voters in District 7 overwhelmingly returned veteran commissioner Tom Taylor to his seat on the Robeson County Board of Commissioners. Taylor, 57, a Democrat, has served on the board since 2000.

Taylor defeated the Rev. Dennis Harrell, a Republican who was seeking his first elective public office.

With a total of 5,501 votes cast, Taylor received 3, 773 votes, or 68.59 percent. Harrell received 1,728 or 31.41 percent of the total votes cast.

“I appreciate that the people have confidence in me and have given me another four years on the board,” Taylor said shortly after the votes were tallied. “I try to help them all (county residents). My first priority is the citizens, and my second priority is our county employees.”

Milsap propelled by early push

LUMBERTON — District Court Judge Judith Milsap Daniels secured her bid for re-election on Tuesday, largely with the help of voters who cast their ballots early.

Daniels defeated Rodney Oxendine, a Pembroke native and Robeson County Assistant District Attorney who was seeking his first elected public office.

During the 16-day early voting period, Daniels received nearly twice the 5,347 votes cast for Oxendine. On Tuesday night, unofficial results showed Daniels receiving 57.04 percent of the 37,079 total votes cast, and Oxendine receiving 42.96 percent.

“I want to thank all of the folks of Robeson County for supporting me not only in this election but in the past,” Daniels said Tuesday night. “I’m doing my best to be worthy of their support and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to serve Robeson County … there’s really not words to express how much I appreciate all of the voters.”

Did anyone see that President Obama won Robeson County. Thanks to white, blacks, native americans, and hispanics. All of which I've heard him acknowledge in his speech. Contrary, to what some may believe a majority Obama supporters as Romney supporters are hardworking individuals. There were those voting for Romney who are unemployed and recieving benefits as Obama. Voting is a right afforded all individuals. And for the record Presidents don't drive up gas prices as I was reminded when Bush ran, smokes price have been up for over 6 years, but of course this President gets blamed for everything. Romney didn't receive the votes because he was seen as someone who couldn't relate to middle class america. Ross I work hard everyday, I don't look for handouts but am willing to help those who are less fortunate due to no reason of their own (you know those who fall on tought time). Republicans need someone who has pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps, who know what it's like to have it hard but never give up. Someone who has a non silver spoon in the mouth life and can relate to middle class America. Not someone who talks about the 47%, not someone who fellow party members destroys in the primary (they even said Obama would be better off than Romney), and not a flip flopper. Chris Christie is really looking good right now. I think that dude has a heart for the people. Romney had no connection and deep down within, I think you know it.

Listen sweetheart, most Republican voters and others like me and my wife, will do just fine. See, we don't rely on anything government does other than basic funtions as put forth by our founding fathers. It's people such as yourself and others like you who depend and rely on government for many of your needs. (food, housing, daycare, welfare, cheese, medicaid, free lunches, obama phones,WIC,unemployment, etc) You may work, but your skill or education level is not adequate enough to render you the job YOU THINK you're entitled to, so you use the government as a form of plunder on others to "make up" the difference in your pay and your expectations of your pay. This is considered stealing.

Obama has increased the moocher class of leaches in this society, but the few small crumbs coming from the big-house will never be enough to make poor people live as well as hard working people. We have the jobs you need, we have the money you want, and we provide the services(for a fee) you need... You just made it a bit harder on yourselves......

Ps. Enjoy those bits of crumbs, it still wont make you happy. Hard work, accomplishments and seeing the fruit of your labor will only make one truly happy.

@lumbee4767: While I don't like your sarcasm, I like the fact that you changed welfare/foodstamps recepients to worthy. I can agree with you on that. Everyone on foodstamps aren't worthless, some are trying to maintain until they can find employment. Maybe bipartisanship can be reached and move the country FORWARD.

I enjoy stopping at the gas station and seeing people like you pump 3 dollars worth of gas, buy 5 dollar pack of smokes and lottery tickets.. Then turn around and support the very ones who are behind those prices, only in America....

Ps. I'm raising my prices, but the one's behind the cause are the ones you support.

This is why we need to drug test voters in this country, we cannot have folks casting votes who's minds are in an altered state, it's dangerous.

It amazes me that for the past 42 presidents, no one complained about the unemployed, or those on welfare voting. Now everyone has a problem with it. Many complained, but none stood up for prayer being removed from school which is probably the leading cause of some of the ills in todays society. Bush, Clinton, Reagan all had time to change Roe V. Wade well what happened. During Sodom, God turned people over to make a choice on what they were going to do sexually. Those who chose homosexuality suffered dire consequences (Obama doesn't make people gay). If the Christian church would learn to love people and teach them the way to go some one might change their life and decide not to commit such an act, but if not whether abortions are legal or not they will find a way to abort the pregnancy (proven in the past). Welfare/food stamps arent new, some abuse, but more use them to get on their feet. You say Benghazi, I say millons of American soldiers killed fighting a war in Iraq for what? Weapons that weren't there. I can assure that if Christ is taken out of Christmans it won't be because of this President. Just like it wasn't this Presidents fault that prayer was taken out of school. As far as Romney's religion, I will only say Billy Graham listed mormonism as a CULT. They don't believe in receiving Christ as those of the Christian faith. Lincoln/Washington will turn over in their graves for the same reason most of you nuts post on this page. U cant stand the fact that a black man has been re-elected to his second term as president. Deal with it. And if by some chance you are a Christian you would know that Jesus said we would always have poor among us. He didn't treat them as less than anyone else. As you have done to the least one, you have done also unto me. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. And yes, if a man doesn't work he doesn't eat. But, don't assume that everyone who voted Obama doesn't work.

We did complain about welfare leeches, un-employment and disdain for the office by Biil Clinton and many others.... You're just paying attention to it now because a black man is in the white house, and it offends you.

You turn a blind eye to what we are saying and blame it all on "cause he's black".... sad.

News flash for ya, 61% of whites voted for the black man, 3% of the blacks voted for the white one..... Hmmm

Well I never thought I would see the day that this country would come to such a sad state! You asked for it America and trust me Obama is gonna give it to you and the sad part is that I will have to suffer along with everyone else. I believe that you can get away with murder and not be held accountable for it (Benghazi)I know that these people's family feel as if another part of them has died just like their family members. I hope every homosexual, non foodstamp, welfare and so called he's for the poor people in America curses the day that they have elected this person in office again, is it not enough that we don't have a Vice-President that doesn't even know that JOBS is a four letter word and not a three letter word for all you intelligent people, you know what I'm stating. Ok, I just love the fact that everyday more money is going to be taken from my pocketbook to service abortions, homosexual marriages, murders other people's college education that they probably want remember because they will have been stoned and graduated and wonder how they got a degree. I know that President George Washington turned over in his grave last night and went to get Abraham Lincoln too. People talk about how they keep trying to take Christ out of Christmas well, to me, this country has taken God out of God Bless America, they have turned their backs to him and for that an ultimate sacrifice will be paid by the Americans of now and years to come by a massive amount of debit. We shouldn't even worry about having trials for murders because like with this election, we should just turn our back on it just like this country did to God and to all the American Soldiers who have fought for Freedom and Liberty for all. We have become our own enemy when we turn our back on our American Soldiers. Thank God that NC did do the right thing and vote for Romney it's too bad that the rest of America didn't have the Cristian Base to do that also.

I am sick to my stomach. I do not like this man, and at this point, nor do I like the ones who voted for him.

Well at least NC didn't vote for him. The ones that did you lost. We smart ones are still the majority and now you've been exposed, we know who you are. You'll be needing a job, or a service that Republican owned businesses provide. We don't need you for anything. From here on out just stay away from us, and mind your kids.

Oh, and one more.. When this man raises taxes on the rich, guess what, I'M NOT PAYING THEM! YOU WILL! Cause I'm raising my prices now on things YOU need, so enjoy the higher prices..

Also will be downsizing my business a bit, and guess who are the first ones to be given the pink slip?

Me and my wife's standard of living will not change any, we and others like us will continue to do just fine. Unlike so many around here, WE want OUR kids to have the same opportunities as we have. We actually care about the direction of this country, again, unlike so many around here who are only interested in THEMSELVES.

I'm not the only business owner who is raising prices, start paying attention to little increases here and there. Higher prices does not alter us going out to eat, vacation or putting a hundred dollars in the tank..... But it will affect YOU POOR PEOPLE.....

PS Congradulations on your win, now get ready to pay. Raise our taxes, we raise our prices. Ross.

That's right Ross. Ross don't forget our meeting tonite. Bring your white outfit inluding the cone shaped hood. I really miss how things used to be just like we talked about. The ones winning these elections should be cleaning our cars and working in our yards. It's sad to see our world as we know it changing before our very eyes. Ma and Pa would be disappointed too. By the way is your money 'bout to run out that they left you. Mine is and I ain't got nobody to accuse of stealing it like they used to back in the good ole days. Something has got to change, maybe Mike McIntyre will be there tonite too and can help us with this.

Sportsjunk: If we failed our customers like you and your cohorts fail teaching our kids in the classroom, we'd be out of business. This is why you love government so much, keeps you on the job dumbing down our kids... And as you can see with this latest election, government workers can be absolute failures and still keep their job! Keep up the good work, Mr. government school teacher.

Congratulations to all of yesterday's winners and to the people who participated in the process that we take for granted. Please don't forget that there are so many places left in our world where even disagreeing with the ruling elite can mean death to an entire family. Lastly, please join me in asking God's grace, wisdom, and blessings on all of our leaders that they will pray dilligently as they go about ruling.
